‘Missing You’ is an Interesting Mystery

DI Kat Donovan (Rosalind Eleazar) has her world turned upside down as she searches for a missing person, her ex, who disappeared, and the truth about her father’s death.
This is another Harlan Coben limited series on Netflix. Though I’ve struggled with some of the past limited series, I had to give this one a try. I don’t know what it is about a limited series mystery, but I have to give it a shot. I may have a sickness.
I was pleasantly surprised by this one. I really enjoyed Rosalind Eleazar on Slow Horses, so I was thrilled to see her in the lead role in Missing You. And she does a fantastic job! She is completely believable as a workaholic cop who has been through her fair share of tragedies. We watch Kat relive some horrific moments in her life, and Eleazar handles them all perfectly.
Kat is a very likable character. We first meet her when her date is interrupted by a fight at the restaurant. Instead of waiting for someone else to intervene, she steps in and diffuses the situation, disarming the attacker and getting medical help to those who need it. She’s a no-nonsense type of character but also has moments of tenderness with her family and friends. As the season goes on, you learn about what she’s been through, which just makes you want to root for her even more.

One of the aspects of Missing You that really impressed me was the cliffhangers at the end of each episode. There’s an art to structuring a TV series to keep people watching, and this show nails it. There were multiple times when I felt tempted to continue watching even though I needed to do something else — like sleep. I just wanted to know what happened next to Kat and these other characters.
The plot of Missing You is pretty complex, with many characters and storylines intersecting with one another throughout the five episodes. There are times when it’s unclear who should be trusted; everyone has ulterior motives that could derail Kat’s plans.
As Kat digs further and further into the past and her father’s death, she’s confronted with harsh truths that she has to grapple with. And the facts of the past affect how she sees her present. It’s really interesting to watch her have to come to terms with some information that really rocks her world. Are some of the twists a little over the top? Yes. Did I mind? Not really.
I think my biggest issue with Missing You is the ending that feels a little too convenient at times. But it also could’ve been worse. I had a good enough time with the show that the ending, as ridiculous as it is, didn’t ruin it for me.

If you’re in the mood for a mystery with plenty of twists and turns, consider checking out Missing You. While it’s darker than a cozy mystery, it’s not incredibly grim or graphic. It’s a comfortable, safe mystery that is very entertaining to watch.
Plus, Rosalind Eleazar stars in the leading role, which is an absolute joy to see.
