Reflecting on Seven Years of Podcasting

Each year on Movies & Us, we take a moment to pause and reflect on the previous year. We take a look at our favorite episodes and moments from the last 365 days, but we also take some time to think about our podcasting journey as a whole.

We didn’t know what we were doing when we started this podcast seven years ago. Nowadays, it seems like everyone has a podcast, but back then, it was a little more unusual. I remember friends being surprised that we, two regular people, could do this. And over the years, we’ve learned so much and grown so much.

What has been both incredibly rich and surprising is the people that we’ve been able to meet along the way. Movies have an incredible way of helping us connect with each other and the world around us, and we’ve found that to be true with this podcast. Talking about a film can open up conversations that we might not otherwise engage in. And that’s a really beautiful thing.

Our lives have changed so much over the last seven years, and Movies & Us (and now TV & Us) has been a constant amidst all of the ups and downs of life.

It’s been a fantastic seven years, and we can’t wait to see what’s next!

The past year has been really incredible for the podcast. Dreams that we had that we thought were years away happened, like starting this website or interviewing a director. We’ve also launched mini shows for both Movies & Us and TV & Us, which we’ve gotten some really great feedback on. We were also able to attend the Seattle International Film Festival this year, which was a ton of fun—and we can’t wait to go back next year!

This year, in particular, has been a really wonderful reminder of the importance of dreaming. We have big dreams for the podcast and, with all of the amazing support we’ve received, we’re going to keep dreaming bigger and bigger.

Part of those dreams includes our own subscription community: & Us Living Room!

We want this to be a place where you can kick off your shoes, get comfy, and just talk with friends about movies. This is a laid-back digital space where you can be yourself and connect with us and other movie fans.

Get early access to ad-free episodes, along with bonus episodes each month, and so much more.
